Welcome to the new web site for Little Dunham Village in Norfolk
Mentioned in the Little Domesday Book of 1086, Little Dunham is a quiet, rural Breckland village on the high till plateau of Norfolk. It retains many centuries of charm and character which is now enjoyed by a population of around 300 people. Amongst the highest villages in Norfolk, Little Dunham has expansive views across open countryside and wide skies. Walking the numerous local paths and lanes you will come across a rich variety of flora and fauna including orchids, cowslips, great crested newts, buzzards, deer and foxes. The famous obelisk built in 1814 to honour Norfolk’s hero, Lord Horatio Nelson, can be found on the eastern side of the village on land once owned by his great uncle. Many members of his family are buried in St Margaret's Church.
There are no street lights, shops or industrial units in Little Dunham. In fact, the village population is the same now as in 1841! When Simon Nott visited the parish church of St Margaret’s in 2004, he discovered the true atmosphere of the village.
“I wandered around the churchyard enjoying the sun on my face, the smells of early summer, the birdsong and high-pitched nagging of lambs"
